Blackjack owns its roots to 17th century France, derived from a game played in French Casinos called Vingt En Un (twenty-one). Although it may not have been the original ancestor of the modern game, this is where the game we know as Blackjack today evolved from. Unfortunately, historians and researchers have failed to uncover the absolute origins of the game.
Rules of Blackjack
The main objective of Blackjack is to better the hand of the dealer, without overstepping the magical number of 21, and going bust. If you are playing the game in a casino, it is still the objective to beat the dealer, no matter how many other players there are at the table.
It is worth to know that the picture cards i.e. king, Jack and Queen have a face value of 10, while the Ace doubles as 11 or 1, whichever you decide.
The players must place a bet before any cards are dealt. Then the Players are dealt 2 cards face up, while the dealer receives 1 face up and 1 face down. From this point on, each player individually decides whether to stay in the game or take more cards from the dealer with the aim of getting closer to the number of 21 without busting. All players who have not busted wait for the dealers turn, who flips over his face down card for all to see. If the dealer has a combined total of more than 17, by rule he cannot take any more cards from the pack. If the dealer has fewer than 17, he must draw another card. If the combined total of your cards is higher than that of the dealer (not exceeding 21) you win and double your original stake.
If the cards are dealt and you receive 2 cards depicting a 10 and an ace, you automatically win and collect 1 and a half times your original stake money – this is known as “Blackjack”.
