Blackjack Put the Odds in Your Favour

There are many forms of card games that are available at your casino but one that remains popular with the experienced player and the newcomer is blackjack. Now you may hear poker players speaking in derogatory terms about blackjack, strangely calling it a game of chance rather than real gambling but this is just a case of certain players thinking they know best. Every card game is a game of chance; that is a simple fact. Poker has its own merits but the art of blackjack has just as many factors to consider as any other card game.

The basic rules are very simple to understand, each player is looking to get as near to twenty one as possible. You will be drawn two cards and from here the decisions will begin. To play the game well, you need to play the odds. Playing the odds means knowing the cards. Now, we are not talking card counting here, which is a way that you can detect what is coming next. Casinos frown upon this and you will be spotted and ejected immediately. It is also no where near as easy to do as is made out. If you go wrong, you can lose big, and alas many people do go wrong. Anyway back to the game, not knowing the cards is simply looking at the odds from the cards ace through to nine. Four sets of each number within the pack are worth their face value. However the ten, jack, queen and king all have the value of ten so there is sixteen cards of that value, thus the odds of you drawing a ten are much greater. You should assume that a ten will be drawn at all times, even if you are sitting on twelve or thirteen. You could actually win with this if the cards fall in your favor. So the decision will always be to stick or twist. Sticking means you hold to the value you have in your hand, the twist means you take another card. If you are sitting on eleven or less, you need to twist, anything above this and you are risking a bust which is over the twenty one mark and this also means that you lose. If you are sitting above eleven, and everyone has chosen to twist, I would advise against twisting as well, the law of averages will pan in your favor if others take the risks when you play the game.
